Unless Bonds (at 758 as I write this) plans on sticking around another two or three seasons, I don’t think that Oh’s world record is in jeopardy.
Realistically, Bonds has a better shot of joining the 3,000 hit club than he does hitting 110 more home runs. He’s at 2,917 right now – just 83 shy of 3,000. In hitting 3,000, he would join Aaron, his godfather Willie Mays, Eddie Murray, and Rafael Palmiero as the only 3000-500 hitters.
And for the guy who asked who Sadaharu Oh is: he played his entire career with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan’s Central League. He played from 1959 to 1980. He’s currently the manager of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in Japan’s Pacific League.
