Why was The Outer Limits original series taken off the air in the early 60’s?
I was 12 and 13 years old when this show was on the air in 1963 and 64 and I watched every one and got them on DVD today. However, I do not know why it was taken off the air. The reason I question this is because the show was very popular. There was even Outer Limits colector cards (like baseball cards) and the hot card to have was the: The Architects of Fear card, as that was the only way you were going to be able to see the whole monster. The show only shows parts of him. Anyway, does anyone older than me (I am 55) remember why this hot show was taken off the air? Please note, I am almost sure it was not because of rateings but may have been because of cost. Any thoughts? Thanks.
By the way, I always pick best answer, unless the answer has nothing to do with my question but that has not happened yet.
I’mm 55 too, and remember it well. I think it probably couldn’t stand up to the ratings of the Twilight Zone. The show was conceived after the success of Twilight Zone, and I personally think there was room for both (all my friends watched both, as I did), but network execs were the same then as now, it just took them a little bit longer to cancel a show, like at least 2 seasons; now all it takes is 2 shows.
