Was it rude of me to say no to Secret Santa?
Our office every year does the standard secret santa. They require us to write three things that we wish to get from “Santa”. Last year I did this and my list only had 1 thing on it. A starbucks gift card.
Instead I received a chochky or dust collector paperweight that said something about living until you die… the person who got it for me said. ” I thought this was more meaningful than a giftcard!” I know damn well it was a re-gift.. lol
I opted NOT to participate this year due to my experience…. Is this ok? How does one opt out of such office nonsense??
You are fine. Don’t participate in things that don’t involve you really giving from the heart. Yes it is okay. You opt out by saying, “Thank you for the opportunity to participate, but I think I am going to pass.” Beyond that, you owe nobody an explanation.
These things are great for people who really want to do it. But that doesn’t mean people who don’t want to should be obligated.
