The next step for motorcycle safety:
Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS)TM
Discover how Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS)TM is taking motorcycle safety to the next level.
When I’m riding my motorcycle, I’m glad to be alive. When I stop riding my motorcycle, I’m glad to be alive.
– Neil Peart
There are many reasons to ride a motorcycle. No matter if you ride for commuting, traveling, leisure, relaxation or competition, all motorcyclists have one thing in common: In the end of the ride, we want to arrive safely.
To support our fellow motorcyclists in this vision, our motorcycle experts within Continental Engineering Services developed Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARASTM) to enhance motorcycle safety without compromising the joy of riding.
ARASTM incorporates a range of innovative functions designed to assist riders in various situations. Let’s take a closer look at some of the key features:
Blind Spot Detection (BSD) & Lane Change Assist (LCA)
The ARASTM function Blind Spot Detection (BSD) utilizes one radar sensor mounted in the rear of the motorcycle to monitor the motorcycle’s blind spot, alerting the rider of vehicles in the respective blind spot zones. Lane Change Assist (LCA) can be described as an add-on to BSD. In scenarios with high relative speeds LCA ensures a warning approximately 3.5s before the target reaches the motorcycle to prevent dangerous lane changes.
Rear-end Collision Warning (RCW)
The ARASTM function Rear-end Collision Warning (RCW) monitors the rearward traffic and issues a warning if a vehicle approaches the motorcycle with a high relative speed. In dangerous situations the hazard lights will be actuated with a high frequency to gain the attention of the approaching traffic participant.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
The thrilling part of motorcycling happens between the straight parts of the ride. Our ARASTM function Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) helps to save up energy for the rider to concentrate on what motorcycling is all about. The front-facing radar sensor provides the viable information to automatically maintain a safe distance to the traffic ahead.
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
One third of all motorcycle accidents in the EU consist of motorcyclists rear-ending other traffic participants (*). The ARASTM function Forward Collision Warning (FCW) supports the rider in such situations by issuing a warning. This information shall give the rider the incentive to mitigate the potentially dangerous situation in the most suitable way.

Our ARASTM functions concentrate on supporting the rider before and after the exciting aspects of motorcycling. With our “from riders for riders” mindset we combine state-of-the-art sensors and intelligent algorithms to make motorcycling safer and long stretches of road less exhaustive. Benefit from the next step in motorcycle safety without sacrificing the joy of riding.
